March 16, 2011 – Buying gold coins is a pleasant and rewarding way to prepare ourselves for trouble down the road, and today’s prices make it easy to begin building a sound investment in gold.

Nobody likes thinking about catastrophe, but it is imperative that we all take steps to prepare ourselves for the very real eventuality of economic collapse and it social-political aftermath. “Economic bankruptcy accompanied by financial chaos is quickly approaching for the US government,” says best-selling financial author Doug Casey in the Daily Reckoning. Risking his well-earned credibility Casey warns “of troubles at least as bad as any experienced in any advanced country in the last century” that have “every chance of radically, and at least semi- permanently, overturning the basic character of American life.”

The signs of economic collapse are clear enough. Casey foresees the dollar’s long overdue tumble beginning within the next two years, triggering a chain reaction starting in the dollar bond market and cascading through the property market, taking out insurance and pension funds and everything else that is heavily invested in bonds and real estate. “If the stock market doesn’t collapse, it will only be because money is looking for a place to hide from inflation.”

“Everybody gets hurt in a serious depression, but if you understand what’s going on and prepare for it, you can do well enough,” Casey says. A far worse problem will stem from the deeply entrenched and massive federal bureaucracy and the population’s dependence on it to deliver them from crisis.

Bureaucracy, however, exists only for its own preservation and our government is rapidly evolving into a police state, empowered by fear of terrorism. “They’re going to use the continuing economic crisis to increase their power, like it or not,” Casey says.

The future, of course, is never carved in stone. But why risk calamity when you can avert it with a prudent investment in gold coins?
