2013 American Buffalo Proof Gold Coins

The United States Mint has announced the release date for the 2013 American Buffalo Proof gold coin as May 23, at noon EST. Pricing for these coins has not been announced as prices for numismatic coins are determined based on demand for the coin as well as the current gold spot price.

The coins are .9999 fine (24-karat) and feature designs based on James Earle Fraser’s original 1913 Type I Buffalo nickel. The obverse of the coin displays a Native American and the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “2013,” the initial “F” for Fraser and a mint mark of “W” which stands for West Point.

The reverse of the coin depicts the famous American Buffalo, also known as the bison. The inscriptions on that side of coin are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “$50,” “1OZ.” and “.9999 FINE GOLD.”

Each gold Buffalo Proof coin comes in a hardwood box that has a matte finish, and the coin is positioned on a platform that can be angled for optimum display purposes. As with the American Eagle gold coin Proof, a Certificate of Authenticity is included with each coin.

Individuals who want to order American Buffalo gold coin Proofs can visit www.USMint.gov or call the U.S. Mint at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). The U.S. Mint charges a shipping and handling fee of $4.95 to all domestic orders, and orders over $5,000 may be eligible for free shipping by contacting Gold Coin at 800-425-5672.
